Hazoor Sahib Nanded



Nanded is one of the historical places in Marathwada region of Maharashtra State. Nanded District is located in the southeastern part of Maharashtra, Bordering Telangana. It is situated on the north bank of Godavari River. It is famous for Sikh Gurudwaras. Nanded is a town of great antiquity. The name Nanded is widely believed to have originated from “NANDI” the Vahan of Lord Shiva, who performed penance on the banks (TAT) of River Godavari. This “NANDI TAT” became NANDED.

It is said that during the Puranic days, Pandavas traveled through Nanded district. Nandas ruled over Nanded through generations. In 1708, Guru Govind Singh the tenth spiritual leader of the Sikhs came over to Nanded, his permanent abode. It was he who preached amongst the Sikhs that there need not be any spiritual leader for them and they should take Granth Sahib as their leader. A monument has been constructed at the place where he breathed his last. A Gurudwara has also been constructed there. It is known as Shri Huzur Abchalnagar Sachkhand Gurudwara.

Nanded is gradually becoming industrial city as few new industries starting their operations.Tourism is another source of revenue with about ten million visitors or devotee visits the city per year.

Nanded Fort
Situated 4 km away from the Nanded Railway Station, the Nanded Fort has a beautiful location. Sensuous Godavari River encloses the fort on three sides. There is a good garden and water works enhancing its natural beauty

It is home to goddess Renuka, and forms one part of the Saade Teen Shaktipeeth (three and a half seats of Deity of Power). It also has a Parshuram Mandir. Located on two adjoining hills, the Mahur fort was an important point on the major route from the North to the Deccan.

Sahasrakund Waterfalls
It is a favourite destination for tourists during the monsoon. Situated in Islapur village in Kinwat taluka, it is also accessible by train.

Unkeshwar Village
It is in Kinwat taluka also has a famous Shiva temple. Hot water springs with contents of sulphur and phosphate are believed to have medicinal properties.

Siddheshwar Temple at Hottal
It is situated in Degloor Taluka. There is a very beautiful Temple Lord Siddheshwar, which is known for the characteristic Art of The Chalukya Era. Hottal is 8 km away from Degloor. The temple is built in stone.

This village is famous for a very big held in honour of Lord Khandoba. The big fair namely “Malegaon Yatra” is held in Margashirsh Vadya 14. Malegaon is situated at a distance of about 57 km from Nanded. The fair is famous for its animal market. At the time of the fair, horses, donkeys, camel etc. are brought in large numbers. Thousands of people visit the fair.

Natural Wealth
Nanded has plenty of forest wealth. There are thick forests in Kinwat, Bhokar and Hadgaon talukas of the district. Teak, Bamboo, Moh, Tendu are the trees found in these forests. There is Penganga sanctuary near Kinwat. In this sanctuary. Tigers, leopards, bears and peacocks are observed.

Kandhar Fort
Kandhar Town is famous for its fort. Kandhar fort is situated in the heart of the Town. Encircling the fort, is a ditch filled with water. Its construction is attributed to the Rashtrakuta King Krishna III of Malkhed who styled himself as Kandharpuradhi Swar. Outside the Kandhar fort at some distance is a hillock on which is situated an old Idgah held in reverence by the muslims. It is of Nizamshahi period with two domes in characteristic Ahmednagar style.

How to Reach

By Air
Nanded’s airport, the Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Airport is typically served by regularly scheduled seasonal flights to Mumbai and Delhi during the winter months. The airport has a ‘Night Landing Facility’. Currently the airport is non-operational since there aren’t any flights on the daily basis.

By Rail
Nanded is one of the division of South Central Railways. Nanded is known as Huzur Sahib Nanded. It is under the jurisdiction of railway divisions of South Central Railways zone. It is served by 48 pairs of trains every day.

By Road
NH 222 Kalyan-Ahemdnagar-Parbhani-Nanded-Nirmal, NH 204 Nagpur-Wardha-Nanded-Solapur-Kolhapur-Ratnagiri and NH 161 Akola-Nanded-Degloor-Sangareddy pass through the city. State Road Transport Bus service operates to every major city in Maharashtra.
