Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is a deer national park located in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The wildlife park, named after the holy saint of the Jains, Lord Mahavir, is located in Vanasthalipuram, which is a residential suburb about 15 kms from the main city. It is particularly known for being a home for endangered animal species, Black Buck deer. This deer park was set up in order to preserve this precious heritage and rehabilitate it.The park is maintained by the AP Forest Department. The place where the park is located was once a private hunting ground of Hyderabad Nizam.
More than 500 cheetahs ranging from dark brown to black are also found. Other than these, cormorants, monitor lizards, mongooses and porcupines also find their homes in this park.
This park also houses 30 species of reptiles and over 120 species of birds. Birds like peacocks, doves, egrets, cormorants, partridges, quails, kites, short-toed eagles and vultures also can be found nesting in this place.
The flora of this park consists of dry deciduous forest which is mixed with grasslands and scrub jungles. You will find trees like Palas, Teak, Sandalwood, Amalthas, Rosewood, Acacias, etc.
Visitors can see the animals through sheds and viewing towers. The government has also introduced van safaris to take the visitors on a ride within the park to watch the animals closely.

Like all the National parks have, Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park includes one exhibition hall where one can learn about wildlife conservation. This park is maintained by Forest Department and guided tours are available within the park. There is also availability of safari rides within the park premises to get close up looks of black bucks.
It’s on the way to Ramoji Film City on the National Highway 9.
As the park is just 15Km from the main city there are number of places which can be visited in Hyderbad.
The park can be visited at any time of the year.
